2 days and 1 night in Bohol? Yes, you read it right! For just 2 days, me and my favorite persons were able to explore Panglao island. Even though we’re not able to go to the famous chocolate hills, we had an awesome getaway.
Last April 3, Palm Grass the Cebu Heritage Hotel celebrated their 1st and
grandest anniversary which also commemorated the 120th year of the Battle of Tres de Abril.
At 3pm sharp, the program started with a prayer. After the opening prayer, the program proper started with the symbolic ride of horse-riders dressed as Katipuneros from Colon bridge (Puente de la Revolucion) going to hotel. Upon arrival, Katipuneros reenacted the happenings during the Battle of Tres de Abril. It was then followed by the performance of the trained locals demonstrating the Native Martial arts (Arnis).
Moving on, we headed to Hawanan Tres de
Abril (Function hall) located on the 2nd floor of the hotel. There
we witness the performance of the two participants for the Cheer Chant contest
coming from different schools and Barangay. Everybody enjoyed listening as they
were chanting about the event. At the end, the contestant from Barangay T.
Padilla won as the campion. After the annunciation of the winner, some talented
Cebuanos showcased their talents by performing spoken poetry. Even though I am
not born in Cebu, I was still able to feel the words coming out from their
mouths. It was really an astonishing performance.

6 o’clock in the evening, we had our
dinner at Kapihan ni Lumaya (restaurant café). While having our dinner, the
program continued and heard talks from the descendant of Leon Kilat. It was
followed by the Launching of Tres de Abril video produced by Mr. Prospero Laput
and Cebu students.

Of course, the celebration wouldn’t be completed
without the presence and message of the Governor, Cebu City’s loving Mayor
Tomas R. Osmeña and Palm Grass representative Serafin Guivelondo-Blanco. Later on, Leon Kilat book was presented
to his descendant and was followed by the launching of Kabanay Card.
We ended our day by going to Hardin
Dagami located on the 7th floor of the hotel. There’s a pool where
you can chillout with your friends, family and loved ones. Beside the pool,
there’s a mini bar to order some drinks or you may go upstairs to see the view
of Metro Cebu from afar. You may also avail some of their promos and can have 5
free karaoke songs per table.

It was a day full of fun and learnings
about the history 120 years ago. There’s a lot more in the history that we don’t
know yet. It was not even taught at school nor by our parents. You should start
unveiling the history by yourself. Don’t let the past hunt you!
